DAA - Distributed Access Architecture
Remote PHY (R-PHY) is a technology within the Distributed Access Architecture (DAA) that aims to improve the efficiency and performance of broadband networks. This architecture moves the physical layer (PHY) from the central headend or hub to the edge of the access network and therefore provides increased bandwidth and capacity as well as improved signal quality.
DCT DELTA's remote PHY device is one of the few devices in this segment that is not based on a Broadcom (BCM) ASIC, but uses an integrated FPGA for signal generation and signal modulation, without the often mentioned disadvantages of high power consumption. We can therefore adapt to changes in communication with the (v)CCAP again and again and are therefore interoperable with all primarily used CCAPs (Converged Cable Access Platform). Together with the fully controllable integrated RF amplifier based on GaN (Galium Nitride) technology, the device allows for a perfect fit. Additional features such as an integrated Fostra-F transmitter, DVB monitor, UTSC and much more, as well as the easy-to-use graphical user interface for M&C (Monitor & Control) purposes, even outside the expert segment, make the device a versatile product.
With the sister product RPD-OPT, which has an optical mini-headend instead of the RF amplifier, existing networks based on analog fiber optic infrastructure can also be easily and cost-effectively upgraded for the DAA environment.
