FTTH rollout in the Waldviertel region: Municipal open-access fiber optic network with intelligent optical matrix
Optical matrix in the Waldviertel region: Lower Austria's largest fiber optic network is being built!
Two weeks ago, we introduced you to our exciting project in Austria featuring our optical matrix. Today, we would like to delve deeper into the details of this project:
A large municipal fiber optic network with an open access approach is currently being built in the Waldviertel region. This project allows various internet service providers (ISPs) to offer their services, while end users can freely choose the provider that best suits their needs.
Our optical matrix plays a crucial role in this:
After the contract is signed, the fiber optic connection to the customer is remotely controlled and connected to the chosen ISP without any on-site personnel. If a customer switches providers, the connection is simply reactivated remotely, ensuring maximum flexibility and efficiency. Every property in the Waldviertel region has access to a cost-effective fiber optic connection and can freely choose between different providers at any time. Once fully deployed, approximately 14 Points of Presence (POPs) with our optical matrix will provide flexible and future-proof open access.
Here are the project highlights at a glance:
- Area: 500 km² in 10 municipalities
- Connections: Over 8.000 for approximately 15.000 citizens
- Route length: approx. 850 km
- Ownership: The network remains 100% municipally owned.
